PT-141 (generic name: Bremelanotide) is a synthetic heptapeptide and a cyclic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It does not act on the vascular system; instead, it directly activates melanocortin receptors (MC4R) in the brain to stimulate sexual desire. It is used for the treatment of acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women.

The mechanism of PT-141 is completely different from that of PDE5 inhibitors (such as Viagra). Rather than dilating blood vessels, it works on the brain's "command center."
