Cyromazine is an insect growth regulator (IGR) primarily used to control Dipteran pests, such as leafminers and fly larvae.
It works by interfering with the molting and pupation processes of insects, causing abnormal larval or pupal development and thereby preventing successful emergence of adult flies.
What is the Pharmacological Action of Cyromazine?
Cyromazine is an insect growth regulator that inhibits molting in Dipteran larvae, particularly during the first instar stage. By disrupting the molting process, it interferes with maggot development and reproduction, and may cause larvae to die due to failure to shed their exoskeleton.
When administered orally to poultry, even very low concentrations excreted in the manure are sufficient to effectively eliminate fly larvae. The onset of action generally occurs within 6–24 hours after administration and can last for 1–3 weeks.
After oral administration in chickens, absorption is minimal; the compound is largely excreted unchanged in the feces. It is considered safe for humans, livestock, and natural predators of flies, and does not adversely affect animal growth, egg production, or reproduction.
What is the Directions for Use of Cyromazine ?
Feed Mixing
Laying hens or broilers: Add 100–200 g per metric ton of complete feed.
Pigs, sheep, or cattle: Add 200–300 g per metric ton of feed.
Mix thoroughly. Begin administration at the start of fly season. Feed continuously for 4–6 weeks, then discontinue for 1–2 weeks, followed by another 4–6 weeks of feeding. Repeat this cycle until the end of fly season.
Water Administration
Add 100 g per metric ton of drinking water. Provide continuously for 4–6 weeks.
Spraying Application
Dissolve 50 g of the product in 15 L of water. Spray over approximately 20 square meters of accumulated manure. Repeat every 2 weeks as needed.
Concentrated Spray Application
Dissolve 50 g of the product in 5 L of water. Apply to approximately 20 square meters of manure accumulation. Repeat every 2 weeks.
